Next Generation is ISA’s dynamic youth company of 8 local dancers and 2 guitarists.  Formed in 2001, Flamenco’s Next Generation is now in their 10th year.  Working closely with Maria Benitez to further their skills in Flamenco Dance, the group has performed for local communities to bring the passion of Spanish Dance to New Mexico’s Capitol.  A popular draw, this dynamic youth company has and continues to perform Sunday Matinees at the Lodge at Santa Fe since 2004.

These young talented dancers take their art form very seriously, working as hard as any dance company to perfect their skills in Spanish Dance.  Under the direction of Maria Benitez, Next Generation is a company built on professionalism.  The goals of Flamenco’s Next Generation are to provide training and performance experience to its members as well as to preserve the flamenco tradition.  An important mission of this program is that no one is turned down due to lack of funds.  The Institute makes a special effort to provide training and performance opportunities to interested youth.  Studying in a dance school headed by Benitez and taught by members of Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco and Estampa Espanola, this Dynamic Youth Company has aspirations to further their career in Spanish Dance beyond their youth.

HIGHLIGHTS

 

Next Generation performs for community events including Santa Fe Fiestas, Spanish Market, and O’Keeffe Day, fund-raisers, and civic events

 

Performances weekly during Maria Benitez’ Teatro Flamenco’s 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 summer seasons at The Lodge at Santa Fe.

 

Repertory includes “La Jota”, a difficult and lively regional dance from Aragón, Spain, that is rarely if ever seen in New Mexico, and “La Zapateado”, an equestrian dance with very intricate footwork, choreographed for the company by Pablo Rodarte in 2008

 

Serves approximately 8,000 New Mexico residents and visitors performing year-round at community events

Members graduate to perform with professional adult companies, as well as continue their studies in Spanish dance and music in the U.S. and Spain
