FAQ

Most Frequently asked Workshop Questions

Q: If I pre-register (before the Sunday , July 12 date) do I have to pay full enrollment?
A: No. But when you pre-register you must include a $50 fee to ensure placement in the class. The fee will be applicable to the total fee for the class. After July 12, 2009, all fees are non-refundable.

Q: Do I have to “pre-register”?
A:
No.  You may always pre-register if you wish, but it is also a good idea to attend the demo classes before making a final choice.

Q: Will ALL classes take place at The Armory for The Arts Complex?
A:
Yes. All classes for the workshop will take place at the Armory for The Arts on the grounds of The Bataan Memorial Complex, 1050 Old Pecos Trail.

Q: Will there be parking available at The Armory For The Arts?
A:
Yes. There is free parking available on the grounds.

Q: What is the weather like in Santa Fe in the summer?
A:
Even the best weather forcasters can miss the mark on this one! Usually it can get pretty warm during the days, but can cool down considerably at night. Be reasonably prepared for a little bit of everything.

Q: Are the studios and facilitites climate controlled?
A:
NO. The dance studio has heating but no AC. However, even in the summer, the weather in Santa Fe can be quite changeable, so please be prepared with alternative gear. It is also relatively impossible to judge one individual’s climate tolerance…one may be chilled, the other too warm. Bring choices.

Q: May I audit or ’sit in’ a class I am not registered for?
A: If you wish to audit a class, an audit fee may be charged to you. You may not simply ’sit in’ a class you have not registered for.

Q: Are there any “Cante” classes being offered this summer?
A: No. Adult classes are either dance, percussion or guitar.

Q: May I photograph or video record the classes I am taking?
A: No. Absolutely no photos or recordings of any kind(audio or visual) are allowed during the class sessions. A DVD of the Saturday Performance will be made available for purchase sometime after the workshop.

Q: Can I book lodging for the workshop through The INSTITUTE FOR SPANISH ARTS?
A: Unfortunately, we no longer arrange lodging for our students.

Q: Where is the closest, affordable lodging to where the workshop is taking place?A: The workshop will take place at 1050 Old Pecos Trail in the Bataan Memorial Complex. The closest lodgings to us are the hotels at the Santa Fe Plaza, but they may not be the most affordable. Other more affordable lodging may be found in other areas of town, all relatively equidistant from our location. Please check the bottom of our Main Workshop page for some suggestions.

Q: Is it a requirement to participate in the Saturday Matinee Performance?
A: Most of our students enjoy showing off a bit, but it is not a requirement for our Adult participants. Children and Youths are required to participate in the Workshop Performance.

Q: How long is the Saurday matinee performance?
A:
The performance will most likely be no longer than 2 hours (give or take).

Q: Will we be wearing ‘costumes’ for the Saturday matinee?
A:
No. You will wear your rehearsal or class attire for the performance. If you own an appropriate costume and you wish to wear that, you may.

Q: Will there be rentable dance attire at the workshop?
A: There will be “bata de cola” gowns available for lease. “Bata” gowns will rent for $25 with a $20 deposit.  The $20 deposit is refundable at the end of the Workshop. Adults must furnish their own shoes, skirts, and other attire for all other dance classes. For ladies, shoes with a modest heel, (no flats nor spike heels please) and most loose fitting, mid-calf  length skirts will work.

Q: Will you have “bata” gowns that fit all shapes and sizes?
A:
Obviously we would not be able to accomodate absolutely every size and shape of person, although we have some variety in the realm of size and length. If you feel we may not be able to fit you with a “bata” skirt or gown for rental, we encourage you then to provide your own.

Q: Do I have to provide my own instrument?
A: Children and Youths will be provided with instruments at the workshop (guitar & cajon). Adults who do not have their own instrument will be able to lease the children’s instruments for the class.

Q: Do I have to attend all the Demonstration Classes on Sunday?
A: Demonstration classes help you and the instructors decide which level you may best be suited for, as well as giving you the opportunity to learn a little about the class and make a final decision about which class(es) you may want to take. While it is not an absolute requirement, it is always a good idea, and no change in registration or refunds will be permitted after that day.

Q: Will there be a lunch break during the workshop?
A: Adults will not be able to participate in all adult classes, so there is no scheduled Lunch Break for adult students. Children and Youths will be provided with a 30 minute lunch break each day between 12:15pm and 12:45pm.
